trent reznor must be one of the coolest guys ever. i just stumbled upon some old nin tracks - a band which i used to listen to a lot when i was thirteen/fourteen or so - and his complex yet catchy yet extremely dark compositions are simply extraordinary good.

i’m still so happy that i got this piece of art tattooed on my arm. this still is taken from the short doc about jacob bannon; ‘rungs in a ladder’.

it’s too early to make ‘best-records-of-the-year-lists’  right? anyway, ny’s self acclaimed ‘pretty boy’ did an awesome job on releasing a record which is going to be in mine definitely.

a short write up; the s/t song ‘longlivea$ap’ is a great example of the dark/purple/paranoid vibe a$ap creates in his songs. i’ve aways been a fan of clams casino’s work, but the crystal castles-esque, bitcrushed main sample in ‘lvl’ is def. one of my favourites. worth mentioning is the track ‘ghetto symphony’  where a ominious range of strings (sampled from the song ‘psychobabble’ by frou frou) creates a very ‘impending’ vibe. songs as - a young classic - ‘goldie’, ‘fucking problems’ and the not very lyrical but very catchy ‘pmw’ (pussy/money/weed) are instant bangers, just like the track with ‘his niggah skrillex’ (not my words) called ‘wild for the night’, in which the dubstep producer for one time didn’t use his typical growling bassdrops, but uses more of a dub (the original genre)-ish composition. a very outstanding track, which is in comparison to the rest of the album a very ‘sweet’ and ‘lovely’ song is called ‘fashion killa’. ‘cause she’s a fashion killa/and i’m a trendy niggah’ says a$ap in the hook, and this line perfectly matches his pretty boy, intellegent, ghetto but somehow a boy w/ a good heart (check out the vid ‘national anthem’ by lana del rey, where a$ap perfectly performs this role) image. 

i left out some tracks right now, but these are simply my favorites. ‘longlivea$ap’ doesn’t have any obvious fillers - which is unique in comtemporary hiphop i guess - and that’s why all the tracks mentioned above already make one of the greates hiphop records of twenty thirteen.
